On the River Eider

Mist hangs over the river, softening the landscape’s firm contours. A simple wooden pier reaches into the water.
Before it lie three small boats—not quite moored, held only loosely.
They seem to wait, as if they might silently drift away from the pier at any moment.
The Eider flows calmly through this early moment.
All is still—only water, mist, and the quiet possibility of departure.
