Two stylized sailboats traverse the vibrant turquoise blue of the sea. Their hulls appear as simplified white bars – clear, almost emblematic. The sails, however, unfold in nuanced color gradients: from light green to warm brown on the front boat, and from beige to deep brownish-violet on the rear. Vertically applied impasto emphasizes their longitudinal axes, lending them a sculptural presence.
The sea appears agitated, yet not threatening. Its rippled surface captures wind and rhythm – a play of energy and control.
Above the boats, a light turquoise sky stretches, into which fragments of Baltic Sea charts are collaged. These connect the motif to real geographical space, yet remain painterly integrated through the glaze.
“Baltic Race” is less a snapshot of a sporting competition than a distillation of movement, wind, and orientation. The image speaks of navigation and freedom, of rivalry and vastness—and of the singular atmosphere of the Baltic Sea, suspended between chart and horizon.
