Autumn Leaves

This abstract painting dispenses with representational imagery, instead conveying the mood of the season through colour, form and atmosphere. Warm autumn tones such as rust red, ochre and muted gold seem to glow in swirling, interflowing areas, but they are interspersed with darker brown, green and almost black sections. The technique using acrylic and filler has a dynamic, partly blurred effect, as if the leaves were already being caught by the wind and blown away.
The overall dark colour scheme makes the picture appear heavier and cooler, conveying a feeling of farewell and transience – like a quiet reminder that winter is not far off.
