A network of strong, irregularly placed blue lines stretches across the foreground. It is reminiscent of a fence – a structure that separates and at the same time allows the viewer to see through it. Behind it, a space opens up in various shades of blue, evoking thoughts of water, depth and movement.
Small, irregular shapes in shades of ochre appear in this area. They look like distant boats, floating objects or reflections in a harbour basin.
The image captures the experience of standing in a place from which one cannot directly participate: at the edge of a harbour, separated from the water by a fence. Between proximity and distance, a view of the world beyond emerges – visible, unattainable – and yet it conveys a feeling of freedom.
