Dark blue tulip blossoms, streaked with red and dark red stripes, unfold against a bright yellow-orange background. The warm, radiant surface appears like light and earth at the same time – a field that is not described naturalistically, but perceived in terms of colour.
The intense contrasts between blue and orange make the flowers stand out powerfully. While the tulips in the foreground appear lively and present with more striking stripes, those in the background dissolve more gently into the colour space.
“Tulip Field” is less a botanical study than a play of colour, rhythm and depth. The painting celebrates the expressive power of the flower – a moment of abundance, warmth and movement, captured in intense contrasts.
